A Reason to Give Thanks
I had seen her many times over the last couple months. She had moved across the hall of my complex in late in the summer and seemed to live alone. She was young, polite and quite attractive. I had talked briefly with her a couple times exchanging simple greeting with each other as we passed in the hall coming or going. That is the extent of our conversations so far. From her accent I guessed that she either came from a Caribbean island or her family was from one. I did not even know her name but I looked forward to our chance meetings. I don’t know why I was becoming as interested in her as I was an old divorced white guy with a beer belly and she was a pretty, tall, thin young black woman who seemed to be focused solely on her schooling and nothing else.
