Mariel slipped her shoes off after leaving the concrete pathway. She set them under the bench and breathed in the moist air. It felt just like Seattle.
A musty scent that someone had told her came from the holy thorn. The hawthorn. From all the New Age books she’d copyedited, Mariel knew that when the hawthorns bloomed signaled the beginning of summer. Beltaine. May Day.
Here she was walking barefoot in the Chalice Garden at Glastonbury. The thought made her tingle with excitement. She hadn’t been anywhere this special for far too long. The Beltaine Celebration was about to begin.
