I’m Slushy, a trombone, and do I have a story to tell.

I used to belong to Slide Hooper, one of the greatest trombone players in the country. Slide’s life was totally devoted to music, playing at recording studios during the day, and his regular job on a TV show at night. He was famous in the music world and was in constant demand to do trombone workshops at schools and colleges. One of the questions always asked by students was, “How do you like the trombone you’re playing?” Slide would proudly display me with a smile and say, “Slushy is an extension of my arm and he’s my salvation.” (One of the nicknames for trombones is “slush pump,” so he affectionately called me Slushy). “Playing Slushy is like a violinist playing a Stradivarius,” he would say, and when you heard Slide Hooper play, you knew he was right.
