I stared out my window and still didn't know what the hell it was. I'm a city girl, born and raised, so there's no way I could even make a guess as to what kind of animal was roaming around outside my new house in the middle of nowhere. I really hated living in the country, but Carl and I moved out here after getting sick of apartment life. For the most part I loved the apartment, but nearly every night there was some kind of party going on that kept me from my sleep. And being that I was pregnant with my first child, I needed as much of it as I could get!
We had been searching for a house when I was five months pregnant, but it seemed everything was just above our financial grasp. It wasn't that we didn't expect to be laying down some money, but I guess we were just hopeful that something affordable would fall into our lap. No such luck. I remember complaining about it to my friend Dina one afternoon when she stopped by to see how I was doing, and a week later she called me up to tell me about this great little house out in the country. I didn't think twice before texting Carl about it. Didn't think twice about country life and having to drive for thirty minutes just to get to the store, and didn't think twice about all the creepy crawlies out there. I sent him the realtor's number, but he didn't get back to me. I kept checking my phone to see if I’d missed a call or text from him. Nope. So much for that idea, I thought, a little disappointed. Until he came home that night.
