Major General Robert Griesdieck rounded his Jeep into the vast hangar, registered his troops already fanned out into position, and then took in the hulking, sleek object before him. The brief report that hand been hand-delivered to his home did the metallic artifact no justice. Griesdieck had seen his share of secret projects, but this was unlike anything he’d ever witnessed.

The young corporal driving them stopped their Jeep just outside of the object’s shadow. The towering hangar door rolled down behind him, closing with a boom that echoed in the girders high above. The general paused a moment to take a deep drag on his cigar, rolling the smoke about in his mouth as he studied the gleaming behemoth.
