Diego stood before the door. His stomach had been doing its nervous dance of dread since he stepped on the plane in Chicago more than half a day ago. Diego had paid his tribute to the succubus within those walls before -- they all had -- and knew what to expect. But each time he walked down through the caverns, the walls seemed to tighten behind him. The walls were lined with upright mummies, dried husks that had once been vampires; they seemed to leer over his shoulder, breathe down his neck as he passed. One day, Diego might turn back towards the entrance, but be unable to squeeze back through to freedom. Worse, he feared that he might not want to leave. And that terrified him more than anything else he’d ever encountered in his four centuries.
