Anna sat back in her high-backed chair, staring out of the heavily tinted window high atop her stone castle. She had an old skeleton key hanging from her thin, white finger and was twirling it around with her thumb.
She sighed to herself as she eyed the village below through the trees surrounding the property, “Another century, the same old shit.”
Her long hibernation has just ended yesterday and she had been spending some time getting acclimated to the era that she had just walked into. The last time that she saw the light of day, it was 1916 and things were very, very different.
In the city below, there was a bustle of sexy, streamlined cars. The people were moving about with their heads down, staring at small screens in the palms of their hands. Anna didn’t really know what to make of that recent development, but it didn’t weigh too heavily on her mind. She had been waking up to new eras for hundreds of years and every time that she woke up, there was some huge leap in society that changed the landscape drastically. She had lived through the takeover of civilization, industry, technology and now, a global consciousness. Nothing was all too surprising anymore.
