I hadn't heard from Dad for twenty four years when the attorney called. He told me Dad was dead. It was a Monday. I don't like Mondays. I didn't particularly like Dad, either.

"It took me a while to track you down," the attorney said, after introducing himself and breaking the news cautiously. I don't think he was worried about me getting upset. I think he was worried that I wouldn't be interested and hang up. It turns out Dad owed him some.

"He didn't have much, but I thought you'd like to come around, you know, for the old man's sake."
