Shaozu’s slumber was disturbed by the sound of a loud cry of pain. He heard a raised male voice coming from downstairs, the man using disrespectful terms to a woman. Shaozu wasn’t going to lie idly by while any woman was addressed as a crazy bitch, among other choice non-gender-specific insults, and he was particularly protective towards these women. Madam Yin was letting them stay with her for a pittance, her generosity greatly appreciated as it gave him the chance to recover, which was easier to do here than on the road, where every bump of the cart shot right through him. Kammani was his employer for the duration of the six month period and more than that, she had saved his life on two occasions by using her power to guard her bodyguard. That was not the rightful order of things and he owed her dearly, and if things carried on at this rate he would have to start paying her money for protecting him. As for Lihua...she nursed him during his slow recuperation, though there was more to his feelings than gratitude. She had confided things in him that she had never told another living being and that meant a lot to him and made him wish he could do the same but he had no deep dark secrets to share.
