Teagan pulled at the tiger’s eye pendant absentmindedly that was hanging on a necklace around her neck. For the past ten minutes she hadn’t been able to decide between two paintings. The problem is, she reasoned aloud to herself, that they work best together. Separate them and you have only half the puzzle.
She kept pulling at the tiger's eye distracted. It was shaped like a cross with a swish, like a cursive t. ‘Grandma what do you think?’ Teagan continued sizing up the paintings, tilting her head, and then pacing across the vermillion green carpet. She placed the paintings at the opposite end of the room, and stood to appraise them with fresh eyes. ‘That’s what I thought.’ She sighed.
Teagan walked the length of the living room to her kitchen. The sun was shining brightly on this glorious day and she felt energized. Looking at the paintings once more, her mind was made up. Even at this distance individually they were incomplete. It had nothing to do with the tricksy pixies painted amongst the blueberries in one, or the fairy queen’s elegant gown sewn with threads of moonlight and decorated with delicate drops of morning dew in the other. Individually the paintings were complete and finished off to a professional standard, it was just that for this purpose they were better kept together. They told a story.
