An excerpt from the book:
I jerked my injured arm painfully, but I was held fast. Before I knew it, more of the things had coiled themselves around my ankles and waist and I found myself lifted into the air. I counted nearly a dozen, all winding their way towards me or already capturing me in their grasp. The sickly but delightful scent returned, this time even stronger than before, and my reflexive fight was diminished like I was being tranquilized. A familiar, desirous ache entered my belly outside of my control.
God, what was it doing to me?
The serpentine appendages slid across my skin and the light material of the jumpsuit, raising goosebumps in their wake. They were all over me, exploring and tantalizing.
Centauri Ten: Future home to billions and filled to the brim with more than enough raw materials to fuel the space expansion of the human race for the next one hundred years. As I looked through the thick polyframe windows of the mess hall and out across the vast expanse of the planet’s surface, I took in the mostly plain, rocky landscape.
The terraformers got lucky on this one. The atmosphere needed only minor tweaking, as there was already enough oxygen to sustain us. Ample mineral deposits line throughout most of the planet’s purple-tinted soil, which is relatively soft and easy to drill. Finding a planet like Centauri Ten and claiming it was like striking gold back in the days of Earth Prime’s old west. The nearest research station immediately dispatched us here to catalog the various flora and fauna so that colonization could begin.
