Well, I’ve always been an admirer of animals, especially those of my own species and of the opposite sex. This early love was probably inherited from my father, a great outdoorsman in his own right. His prowess with all manner of edible critters, was legendary in the north Georgia mountains where he was reared. During the depression he used this valuable talent to feed his six brothers and sisters while his father used all his spare time chasing the wily moonshine.

Any way, I have made friends of furry creatures as far back as I can remember. As an almost-only child in the Appalachians, I’ve probably had more “wild” friends than humans (however, some of the “humans” were probably wilder than the raccoons, rabbits, and opossums that followed me around when I was young). Everywhere I go, I find myself searching out the wildlife, and doing my best to nurture it. This has included such diverse beneficiaries as a baby blue jay that had fallen from its nest, a hawk that was hit by an eighteen wheeler, and a couple of waitresses at the Florabama Lounge in Orange Beach, Florida.
