I regretted it once I’d asked him. My now fourteen-year-old son didn’t care anything about a new zoo, or an old one for that matter. But somehow, through some type of grace and good luck, I was blessed with the only courteous teenage boy in the world. He said he’d go. I don’t know if it was because he was being thoughtful, wanted to spend time with me, or had seen the newspaper article. If it were any other teenage boy I’d put my money on the article, but with Robbie it was hard to tell.
The article said the zoo was in town for one night only. It was called the DO Feed the Animals Zoo. It advertised a plethora of animals capable of destroying a human body in seconds and said they would let you feed them. With underlying tones suggesting the practice was safe, and done by professionals, it seemed like a fun thing to do: a new twist on a zoo visit.
