It was a pretty good day for a walk in the forest, I had to admit. The sun was shining, as bright as one of those fake cartoon suns, and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. You'd expect different, since the Olympic Peninsula is a rainforest, but even rainforests have sunny days, and summer in Western Washington was beautiful. It almost made up for the months and months of gray skies in the winter.

I've always been a city girl, and hiking in the forest isn't really my thing, so it probably wouldn't surprise anyone that the only reason I was out in the woods on this beautiful day was work. You've gotta pay a girl like me if you want her to go hiking.

It was strange to have a job all the way out here – my client had driven out to Seattle to hire me. But I guess there aren't that many people who do my job out in the boonies. And by 'not many', what I really mean is 'none'.
