It was an impossibly hot July 4th weekend the first time I met Jonah Martin. I was at Sutherland Park with a group of my friends waiting for the fireworks to start when I was approached by a well-dressed, middle aged man holding an arm full of groceries.
“Excuse me? Yes, you. I was wondering if you would mind helping me unload some of this stuff out of my car. There’s a six pack of beer in it for you if you don’t mind helping,” he told me.
I looked at my friends, shrugged my shoulders, and set off with the man, eager for a free six-pack. After dropping off the things he already had, we headed off to his car and started making with some small talk. He thanked me for helping him out, and introduced himself. He told me that he lived in Los Angeles, and was only in San Luis Obispo to visit his family for the holiday.
After a short walk, we began approaching a blue Bentley Continental. Jonah pulled out his keys and unlocked the doors.
“Wow, nice car,” I told him, peeking my head in and admiring the interior.
“Thanks. Hey, you wanna take it for a spin?” he asked me.
