Curse of the Dickgirl

by Lilith T. Bell

Natalie? What's wrong?” Beth asked through the door. When Beth had moved off of campus at the end of her junior year, finding Natalie for a roommate had been a godsend. Quiet, sweet and an amazing cook, Natalie was everything Beth could have hoped for in a roommate.

There were some small problems, though. She didn't talk much about her past, but from the way Natalie reacted to things, Beth had to assume she was very sheltered. Every time Beth would start talking about her love life, Natalie would jump up and flee the room. Natalie had never said a bad thing about Beth's bisexuality and was always happy to help out in any way she could with the Gay Straight Alliance on campus, so Beth was doubtful that it was a matter of homophobia.

The fact that an entirely straight love scene in The Notebook had just sent Natalie running out of the living room bolstered that interpretation as well.

Nothing. I'm fine,” came the muffled reply.

Beth leaned against the doorframe and crossed her arms. It was clearly a lie, but would pushing help matters at all? Then again, they had been roommates for six months and being gentle and cautious with Natalie hadn't made any improvements at all.

Do you mind if I come in?” Beth asked.
