That's what my friend Carl says, and I'm inclined to agree with him. There've been a lot of changes in my life - some of them quite recently, but I'll get to that later - and I've found that, after some initial difficulty, everything just settles like the little flakes in a snow globe after you've stopped shaking it: gently, slowly, and almost imperceptibly, until you wake up one morning and everything seems normal again to you.
Take the lake, for instance. When I first moved here from Chicago, I hated living next to it, hated how its calm, quiet surface reflected the calm, quiet spirit of this town. I hadn't come here willingly, you see. I had had a job in advertising, and it had been wonderful and exciting until my company made a few staggeringly bad deals and started to go bankrupt. Then I was out on my ass, and I had nowhere to go but the lakeside house I'd just inherited from my grandmother. The snail's pace of small town life grated on my city-bred nerves at the start, but I'm pretty content now. I simply can't see myself living anywhere else anymore. I'd miss the lake too much if I left now.
