Greg Michaels shifted his focus to the wood paneling. It was the kind he hated- the kind without a speck of real wood in it. He didn’t know what the paneling was actually made of. He supposed it was some kind of carbon fiber and plastic combination- but, whatever it was, it held a scent like nothing else in the known universe. Case in point: the county council room smelled like an overfull ashtray.
Lots of county council rooms stink like cigarettes, especially if the council members still regularly light up in meetings and during the Bingo sessions held on Saturday nights. But smoking was banned from the Cuyahoga County Council building way back in 1997- a full fifteen years prior.
Greg did the math in his head- fifteen years times twelve months- that would be thirty- six times- which made 180 months. 180 months and the funk remained in the woodless wood paneling like the last butt still smoldered on the council room table.
