In the beginning, the feelings were easy to brush off. But as time went on I found myself more and more attached to the dream world that my mind had created. It had begun to form a part of me that I wasn’t exactly willing and eager to have. Life went on, however. I went to my job and did what I needed to do. The blades of the box fan in the window chopped the air with a low, throbbing sound. My sleep had been restless for weeks and I couldn’t seem to figure out why. Maybe it was the sticky, humid air that hung around long after the sun had gone down, or maybe it was something else. When I did dream, my thoughts were troubled and bizarre. Nearly every morning, I woke with the same groggy feeling that was impossible to shake. Even through the long days at work on base, small tendrils of my strange dreams felt like they were trying to pull me in, sucking me back down into the realm of the twisted and the insane.
