Dr. Henrietta Sinclair took a deep breath of the Cretan air. It had a vaguely salty smell to it, and was warm without being humid. She knew she had to thank the Mediterranean for that. If she listened hard enough, she could hear the surf pummelling the beaches in the distance.
“Doctor! Over here!”
Henrietta hopped down off the ruined column. She walked over to her grad student, David. He had a pair of sunglasses on and one of those floppy fisherman’s hats to keep the sun off his neck.
He pointed to something on the ground.
“The doorway, it’s right here!” He said.
When she didn’t react with the extreme enthusiasm she knew he wanted, he pointed to it with both hands.
