It was Isaac. Calling my name. I buried my face in my pillow.

My bedroom was at the end of the house, on the first floor. It wasn’t a terribly big house—Mom and Dad couldn’t afford anything bigger. But it did have a tiny second floor with their bedroom and Isaac’s room. It wasn’t a particularly long or wide or tall house. Just a normal, small house. Small, but expensive.

White Plains, NY was not a cheap place to live. Especially not for a family of four living on a professor’s salary.
