"You need to run," his mother whispered urgently.
Gael knew she was right. The wolf's blood was rising and the pull to the murdering bastard that had taken over as Alpha was getting strong. Too strong. He wasn't sure how long he could resist. Still, Gael hesitated. He didn't want to leave his pack behind. Even if he was human, he was still Wolf Blood. Plus...
"I can't leave you behind."
His mother shook her head. "You won't be, Gael." She smiled and took his hand, squeezing it. Despite how fragile her hands had grown, her grip was strong. "You'll be coming back and when you do it'll be with an Alpha that deserves to be pack leader."
Gael swallowed and nodded. This went beyond him and his mother. He was doing this for the good of the pack. There was a thump and they both stiffened. The door to Gael's room was slammed open. Standing at the open door was Jason. He invaded their home like it was his right. It was true that no pack member denied their Alpha entrance into their homes, but the Alpha usually would ask for entrance as a show of respect. But respect was not something Jason had. Gael's gaze slid over Jason. His eyes automatically went to the black leather jacket that had once belonged to his stepfather. No, he didn't think Jason even knew what respect meant.
