Chapter 1, Introduction

The project is unusual in that the researcher studied his own time management. He later downloaded data sets from the Internet and he discussed time use with others, friends and acquaintances. The researcher had more than one purpose with the project. His purposes were time-management research as a research subject, out of curiosity to see how he spent his time, and to improve his own time use. The researcher may have made some scientific discoveries. And he did learn time-management, writing, statistics, computer and admin skills. The researcher had successes and failures from the project.

Readers could see his research as that of any researcher or the reader may want to find out about amateur research projects. As well, the reader might see it as decent research for the sake of research. Or they could see the project had other upsides and downsides such as personal benefits for the amateur researcher. Also, the reader might see that it wasn't worthwhile research for the researcher or anyone else. This essay describes the research project as research, but it also gives a wider context of the project's particular problems and its amateur nature.
