As he raced through the darkened building following the Goth girl with the shaved head, Leslie Stinton’s mind raced. His first thought was a 64-year old man who had devoted his life to eating should have considered exercising more. His legs were burning, he had a stitch in his abdomen and he was breathing hard. Next, he wondered how the city’s premier food critic could have wound up running through the depths of a seedy nightclub with some kind of monster chasing him. How had he got here? The interview, that’s where it had begun…

It was two days earlier and Leslie was seated next to some thirty-year-old flavor of the month interviewer for a local city culture program. Leslie couldn’t even remember the name of the show. He was in a fine suit but it did little to disguise his paunch. His silver hair had been styled perfectly and he had even acquiesced to wearing make-up. The interviewer, whose name was Crystal he recalled, was introducing him.
