“Well”, her mother replied, “I haven’t been all that well since last week but not to worry my dear, I have a doctor’s appointment tomorrow. I’m sure it’s nothing to worry about.”
Samoya’s mom was touched by her caring daughter but didn’t want her to worry.
So she changed the subject and said, “How was school today?”
She was embarrassed to tell her mother that lately school was getting increasingly difficult and she felt like she wasn’t catching on as fast as her other classmates.
“Mom, have you ever felt like you were the only one who wasn’t learning anything? All my friends seem to get done faster than me and they always know the right answer.
I’m having a little trouble keeping up with the teacher,” she admitted softly.
Samoya’s mom knew how hard her daughter was trying in school but her grades weren’t as good as they were a year ago. She secretly wondered if something was bothering her daughter and she was reluctant to share.
“Samoya, I know how hard you try. Maybe we can schedule a meeting with your teacher and see what we can do. Honey, as long as you try your best, that’s all I ever want from you.”
Samoya looked into her mother’s warm brown eyes and she felt love swell within her.
She knew she was the luckiest little girl in the world to have such a wonderful mommy.
“Ok”, she smiled at her mom, “And mommy….? I know your visit with the doctor will turn out all right.”
