Seff squatted and peered into the shallows of the swift moving creek. Large stones created an eddying pool and in it the black backs of tadpoles glistened in the early summer sunlight. He dipped a paw-like hand into the water and watched as the throng streaked away from him, milled about uncertainly at the edges of their sanctuary and gradually returned to swim through his still fingers.
“Hoi! You! What are you doing there?”
Seff’s ears flattened against his skull. He tensed but refused to turn his head and look at the approaching werewolf. “Nothing, Rolph. Leave me alone.”
