Chase lifted his sleepy head from his pillow when he heard a sudden clattering in his room. He looked around and saw his older brother Gavin crawling on his knees, his head stuck under the desk in the corner of the room. He saw that Gavin had a flashlight and was shining it under the desk, looking for something.
“What are you doing?” Chase asked, wondering why his brother was up so early during summer vacation.
“Go back to sleep” Gavin said and continued to search beneath the desk.
“Some noise woke me up” Chase replied, “Did you break something?”
“Go back to sleep” Gavin said again, then sprawled out flat on the floor, reaching far beneath the desk, stretching himself out farther, then inching his way under until Chase could only see his legs sticking out from behind him.
