About the Author

Present day, somewhere in the snow.

It was cold, very cold. He kept his eyes closed for the moment and took in what his body was feeling. Cold, a little wet. A freezing, solid, sandy feeling. Snow?

The sound of the wind finally penetrated his ears after a long silence. He knew that this wind had not just arisen, that it had been blowing all the time. He knew it was his hearing that had not been working before. Why was that? The wind was steady and he could hear small things moving over a rough surface. Small things blown before the wind.

His hearing faded out again, and for a long time there was nothing.
