American Institute of Health Care Professionals: Grief Counseling involves dealing with some of the most painful moments in life. The most painful moment is a loss of a parent’s child. Deveny, in her book When Bluebirds Fly, examines the post-loss period. Taking from her own painful loss, she creates a story of how loss can cripple a family and drive them down paths of guilt, drugs, and possible divorce.

This book is well written and
very lyrical in its style. Easy to read and hard to put down. A good
primer for anyone who wants to do the right thing for someone in this
situation. It’s not easy to know how to treat someone who has
experienced a loss and this book gives one insight into the intimate
feelings of the ones grieving for their loss. Do not pass this one up. (Amazon.com 5-star review)
