In Search of Samuel

U.S. Marshal Arthur McMillian walked into his captain’s office and was immediately sent through by the smartly dressed secretary. McMillian was a plain, stocky man who wore a typical black business suit with an unimaginative necktie. He kept his dark hair cropped short and a neatly trimmed black goatee. McMillian was not a tall man, but his broad shoulders and powerful frame made him seem much taller than his average 5’10” height. He strode confidently through the heavy wooden doors to stand directly in front of his commanding officer’s desk. McMillian spotted two folders on the captain’s desk. The thick folder on top had his name on it: his service record. The captain opened this folder to a marked spot and got right to the point.

“Six years ago you were a part of a multi-state raid on a group of religious fanatics that called themselves the Cult of the Lidless Eye. In that raid you helped apprehend a man named Samuel Clark. He was deemed a homicidal lunatic and sent to an asylum in northern Virginia. Shortly after, Mr. Clark was transferred to the Arkham Asylum in Massachusetts under the care of a Doctor Allen Pensk.
