If there had not been a dagger tickling his chin, Rhys would have taken on the villainous captain outright. With strong likelihood, he would have lost and been killed, but it might have given Gwendolyn a chance to throw herself into the ice cold water, and in turn keep both his honor and her own intact. Drowning was certainly a better fate than what awaited her at the hands of these pirates.
Of course, it would be a useless gesture if he got his throat slit before even reaching the fearsome black-bearded man. Muscles tense, Rhys continued to wait for his chance.
“Get their useless hides back onto their ship,” the pirate captain bellowed. His left arm laid tightly around Gwendolyn’s waist, and the poor girl looked to be near fainting. Her dress was already torn, the pale rounds of her breasts on display. It was the worst punch in the gut to see her this way.
