Your friend, Mary Evans
You need a new blouse, so off to the store you go. You walk through the store entrance and are greeted with all kinds of sale signs and beautiful displays to tease you. But, you’re on a mission and can’t be bothered by the trappings of it all. You make a bee line for the women’s clothing department and as you approach, the rack upon rack of pretty attire, you notice something. It seems there’s a spotlight shining on the PLUS SIZE area. As you enter this area, you see from the corner of your eye, all the other plus size ladies. You sometimes find it embarrassing to be there, but you can’t go naked.
This was an eye opener for me and my ‘ah ha’ moment. It’s when I really realized I had to do something about my body shape and size. I felt like I needed to make a change and quickly! I felt I was becoming a stranger to myself. (Lying in bed on my side, my hand would feel the growing tummy flopping onto the bed! I wondered how I’d let it get this far? I was over 200 pounds and a size 20 or even some 22’s.) Some stores call this section of shopping ‘Plus Size’, or some say ‘Curvy Woman’, etc. I was wearing a 2X and sometimes 3X. I’d get upset if anyone else in my household would wash my size 22 jeans and then dried them, because if dried, I couldn’t get them back on without lying on the bed and hoping that they’d stretch out soon. I hate the bright red marks that the too-tight jeans make on the waistline! It’s really painful and no fun. Been there?
I had to make up my mind on how I want to live. I guess the road to happiness begins with that first tiny step in the right direction. The fact that you bought this little book is a huge signal that you’ve made that first step. Congratulations! But don’t stop there. We have a road to a new life to travel and I’m right there with you. You’ll make it, and you’ll be proud of yourself, too.
