This short story is inspired by the absolute mathematical fact that our sun’s light and radiation reach the Earth in roughly 8 minutes.
After SOHO (Sun and Heliospheric Observatory) and amateur astronomers record an X class planet-killer solar radiation flare and announce it to the world, people from all over the planet react in different ways. Others in shock, others in simple denial and others in their own particular way.
In the end, all that matters is that mankind is about to perish while one unique traveler, somewhere far far away, will be the only remaining proof of mankind’s existence.

Dianne, busy as usual even so early in the morning in her office was not about to be annoyed by the constant beeping of the central console, as solar flares routinely as ever tend to beep the hell out of the lab’s machinery on a very regular basis. She sipped her morning coffee sitting comfortably by her desk surrounded by machines that tirelessly recorded all kinds of activity of the sun. Her lab was on the last floor of the main building of the complex and it was her workplace, her home away from home for so many years.
