The Christmas Star

Long ago, when homes were built of rough-hewn logs, with drafty gaps just large enough to pass a curious mouse, when doctors made house calls, toting their remedies with them in a little black satchel, a miracle took place. An event so special it birthed a tradition handed down through the ages to this very day.

Back then, a lonely cabin rested beside a dirt path. Humble and unassuming, it dribbled soft light from its frost-laced windows and breathed out warm, smoky breath in defiance of winter’s chill. The chimney, tall and stark and stony, stood guard at one end, a flat silhouette pasted against diamond stars.
