Chapter 2: In the Beginning

Oliver was twenty years old and his sister, Melanie, two years younger, had just turned eighteen, and was attending a local college. Like most girls, Melanie was more mature than boys of her age. In fact, her sexual age was more nearly that of her brother. As had Oliver, she had reached puberty quite a while ago, but she hadn't had any sexual encounters. Sure, her mother had told her about the “birds and the bees,” in a boring, clinical type of talk that wasn’t very specific and only increased her curiosity about the facts of life. She and Oliver had dated a little throughout their senior year in high school, but had never gone all the way with their dates. Melanie was curious about sex with questions like, how did it really feel to have sex? Was it as fun as some of her more adventurous college dorm acquaintances said it was? How badly did it hurt the first time? How badly would she bleed?
