Sabrina was fortunate, she felt, to have found such a match. It was a mark of the strangeness of the times the way she had come by her soon to be husband. A dark haired beauty in other times and places could have had her pick of men, but with the gold rush in the Klondike, and the opening of the plains, the few men left back east were not the most desirable choices for a young woman with dreams.
It had happened rather suddenly. A dear friend, Clarisse, had announced that she was headed to the Arizona territory to be wed. Sabrina knew that Clarisse had not had a suitor in some time and she asked her dear friend how this had come to be. Clarisse told her that the papers often ran advertisements for lonely men in the west and the Alaska territory where women were scarce, that were seeking a bride to work with them on their claims or their farms and ranches. She had been writing back and forth with a rancher from Arizona for a few months, and they had agreed to wed. He was meeting her in Kansas and they would travel together to his ranch once they were wed.
