Chapter 1: Occupy Wall Street

October 26. 2011:

Chris drives us to the Carbondale Amtrak Station. We ride in Keri's car, with the Calilocs magnets on the doors. It's dark. It's raining.

Will it be raining in New York?

I picture Garth and I huddled in our sleeping bags, folded into a worn tarp with the mud puddle that Zuccotti Park has become seeping in around us.

Garth says, "This isn't gonna work..."

We buy tickets to China on a whim and arrive there with $14 and no reservations. We argue and scurry nervously. A few more of the hairs near my temples turn white.

"It won't be like that," I tell myself.
