Ella stared at the blue-white glow of the computer screen and wished she could dive into the cool depths of the blank page and disappear. It was a Tuesday. Tuesdays were always bad, because that was the day that Claudia and Tara worked together in the Head Office. The two bosses, supposedly on a job-share were seemingly joined by telepathic powers that linked and synced their movements, attitudes and attributes. They were the dominatrix bosses of Paper White Inc., and they were ruthless.
Ella recalled the day they had first set foot in the office. Even today, there were rumors that they were more than just friends as they petted and cooed at one another, all the time glaring at their new staff. Ella they had singled out as someone who immediately didn’t make the cut.
“How long have you worked here?” Claudia sneered, reading the bespectacled and mousy woman’s CV.
“Four years this autumn,” Ella had replied, adjusting her blouse collar nervously.
“And what initiatives have you spearheaded in that time?” Tara took the piece of paper, brushing her partner’s breast as she did so.
“Well, the publishing deal with the author of – ”
“So you have not taken charge of any deals yourself?”
“You seem what I – ”
