Owen Hanks tried to shake the feeling of apprehension that had been festering in the back of his mind. He had felt it ever since he had been told that he would be assigned to this case. It was far from the first time he had worked with a super-powered patient. Somehow it had become a niche of sorts for him. His first such patient had been the recently apprehended, former subject of a manhunt that had lasted for several months. His abilities could essentially be summed up as an enhanced physique. He had been wanted in connection with a series of robberies, as well as murders. He had also had the unhealthy habit of seducing confused young boys, who had powers of their own, into assisting him in his crimes. Owen’s sessions with him had occurred under the protection of the Taser-like power inhibitor that suppressed the superhuman abilities of the target. This device’s invention had been a godsend for law enforcement agencies, but it wasn’t perfect. For one thing, it was a short-range weapon, and the power-suppression produced by a single use lasted only a few days. Further, individuals with a wide array of abilities tended to be only partially susceptible to its effects. Conrad Davis, the patient that Owen was about to meet for the first time, was just such an individual.
