The Place Where They Cried
In the beginning of the world there were two brothers and two sisters, one dark boy and one white boy, one dark girl and one white girl. For a time, the siblings were friendly with one another, and their parents were proud. But soon the dark children and the white children began to quarrel, fighting irreconcilably, and their parents were overwhelmed with grief. "Please," begged their mother. "Please learn better. This is not the way that a family should behave."
The kind woman's words fell on deaf ears. Soon the whole household became so unhappy that Mother and Father reached a difficult decision: They must separate their children once and for all.
