Voices of my Celtic Ghosts

People often tell me that I have an accent.

“No, I don’t,” I counter brilliantly.

“But you do...,” they insist. “You definitely have a bit of an accent. What is that?”

“I don’t have an accent.” At this point I usually stomp off, asserting that I am Canadian. I was born in Canada, my parents were born in Canada, even both sets of grandparents – all were born in Canada. And I certainly don’t sound any different than anyone else.

Of course, accents are relative things. No one thinks that they have an accent. It’s the other people who have accents. Other people from other places.
