I could not believe that such fury could be coming from such a small critter. I was an intruder. This tent belonged to her master and she would defend this territory with all the authority her lungs could muster. But, a few hours later, a truce was called and she was the one to call it. Jungle noises of the night were just too much for a small dachshund. She bore herself proud but she preferred being close to a human – one human who did not mind a little dog nearby, especially since it was my first night in the Burmese jungle. She spent the dark hours on my cot at my feet. Little did I realize the role I was to play in this diminutive dog’s life.
