This book is a work of fiction, which is loosely based on the author’s own experiences with adjusting to sight loss. Now that he was blind, Toby couldn't go to the school he used to go to, and since the other children teased him about not being able to do the things they could do, he didn’t want to go anyway. So today was to be Toby’s first day at his new school.
His Mother and Father had told him that this new school was special, but Toby wasn't so sure that any school could be special, and he felt sure the other children would tease him when they learned he was blind. He was sure it would be like his old school where nobody else was blind, and the thought made him feel very sad and alone. He started to wonder if maybe he was the only little boy in the whole world who was blind. He wanted to stay home and play with his little sister Emma and Max the dog instead of going to school.
