Our mood might seem unimportant, something we need not mind when doing other things, but it is one of the most important factors in deciding how we live our lives and how we interact with others. If you want to greatly improve your quality of life, and the way you interact with the world you just have to learn how to change your mood at will. Here's how...Let's say you have an important exam at school, or a very important meeting at work, or you might need to get some task done very fast and efficient and you just can't concentrate or get yourself out of the gloom and doom you're into. Let's think of all the things you'd like to change in the way you interact, maybe you'd like to be friendlier to the neighbor, see your friends more, do more activities with your family, or maybe you would want to improve yourself, be better at your job, learn a new craft, or how to play an instrument. Sure there are many things you can do to achieve all this but the most important one, the one that most people don't even think of is learning how to alter their mood at will.Change your mood! Sounds simple enough but when most people think about it, they don't really know where to begin or even how or why to do it. Well let's take it gradually. You've realized that your mood is altering your quality of life. That you'd get more accomplished if you could change your mood at will, and now you're actively trying to get the knowledge of how to do it. If you're reading this then you have consciously decided that and you are strengthening the will to act as you read these words.Decision is the starting point of the journey towards change. However, there is no motivation without willpower. Willpower is a big part of our motivational structure and a mechanism that manages to control our potential in all areas of life. Even willpower is limited by what you think about it and studies show that people who think they have a limited willpower or one that comes in certain amounts will have less willpower when performing certain tasks. So your motivation will be altered if you don't change your mindset. All the psychological processes -- perception, thought, memory, and even your character traits are parts of your willpower, so practicing it every day will ensure your success. By manipulating your will success is guaranteed, as your will is not just oriented inwardly to regulate your emotional state, but also outside yourself as you manage to control any potential difficulties that may come.Based on the Changing Behavior model proposed by Carlo C. DiClemente and Jim Prochaska we can correlate people's negative moods with an addictive behavior they develop through life. Most people don't deal with their bad moods throughout life, but even more, succumb to the emotional pain created by them, making their state of mind even more miserable and eventually altering other aspects of life such as communication with others or even their professional efficiency. Using this model, people can get rid of their bad mood just like they would get right of an addiction. The model is based on five aspects: pre-contemplation, contemplation, action, maintaining and backslide. In the pre-contemplation phase, people simply visualize and take the decision that they want to change a certain aspect, in our case the way our state of mind influences our mood. The second step is when people need to contemplate on what they are about to do, make a plan, acknowledging the changing that needs to be made, and eventually deciding to take action. The next step is obviously taking action, which means that your motivation and whatever increases your will to change will need to be set to action. The final step and probably the most important is backsliding, which can happen from time to time. Changing your mood at will is not going to happen immediately and you will need to educate and train your mind in order to achieve it and backsliding is an important part of this process.
