Author- Upton Sinclair

Published- The novel was first published in 1906 by Sinclair himself as no one would pick it up at first.

Genre- Social criticism or Political fiction.

Setting- The novel is set in the early 1900's in a place known as Packingtown, a district in Chicago where the meat packing industries were located.

Point of View- The novel is told in the third person from an unspecified narrator. The narrator mainly narrates on Jurgis perspective as he struggles in his new life in America.
