This novel is entirely a work of fiction. The names, characters and incidents portrayed in it are the work of the author’s imagination. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, events or localities are entirely coincidental.
The idea for this short story came about whilst I was in the process of considering new ideas for books and series in general since I am approaching the end of my space opera The Humal Sequence. In short, I was considering its successor.
This short represents an introduction to that setting, throws out a few mysteries, introduces a few characters and generally gives a flavor of what you might expect from the series to come.
It presents a simpler future where, although man has begun to colonize the stars, he has little in the way of advanced technology beyond that which we have today. There are a couple of exceptions to this but, for the most part, mankind is just as fractured and driven by petty needs as it is today. There is no concept of the "greater good" of humanity. Everything is driven by power blocks comprised of various nations and cooperation between them is the exception, rather than the rule.
This story also gives a pretty good introduction to my writing style. So I'm hoping it will generate some interest in my other works as well. I know, shameless self-promotion. But if I don't do it, nobody else will!
