Elfego Baca warded off 80 plus cowboys determined to free a man arrested by the self-appointed sheriff.

He was no ordinary gunman. He was a Mexican that was tired of seeing Mexicans in the town of Reserve, New Mexico abused and maltreated by Texas cowboys.

The tiny town lies about 100 miles from Silver City, New Mexico in the mountains of what is the country’s first protected wilderness. It was here that the “Frisco War” became a fabled event.
