Dedicated to the memory and inspiration of Jeremy Brett, whose interpretation of Sherlock Holmes is to me the definitive version. He has rightly been called "the thinking man's Holmes," and I would add, the thinking woman's. With the greatest respect, coupled with a humbleness derived from a little fear, awe, and trembling, I held the picture of Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes in my head as I wrote, and I trust that as he looks over my shoulder from above at my literary effort, he is chuckling and taking this effort for how it is meant – a tribute to the world's greatest detective and the man who, after Conan Doyle, brought him most to life.
