Maurice DeMouse was enjoying his afternoon snooze under the shade of a pear tree when he was suddenly awakened by a very loud thud ... then another thud ... and ANOTHER!

As he yawned, he wiped the sleep from his tiny mouse eyes, stretched his little mouse legs, shook his body, and wiggled his skinny little mouse tail - like he did every time he woke.

Wicky-Wacky-Whoa! I’m ready to go!” said Maurice.

Standing on his little mouse tippy-toes, Maurice looked up in the tree and saw his friend Rosie.

Rosie had a beautiful white face with black patches surrounding her big brown eyes; she looked like she was wearing a mask! And, she had long white whiskers under her black nose. She didn’t have big ears like Bobby the Bunny; her ears were cute - almost like a cats ear - and her legs were somewhat long and spindly. Her tail was long with dark and light rings all the way to the tip.

“Rosie!” shouted Maurice. “What are you doing up there in that tree? It’s the middle of the day; why aren’t you sleeping?”

“I’m having trouble sleeping, and started craving a pear. The fruit is so tender and juicy this time of year,” she said as the sweet pear juice dripped from her mouth.

“I haven’t heard you rattle the garbage can lately,” said Maurice.
