Andy (3) was playing with his matchup memory game. After going through the easy shapes (circle, square, triangle) he came upon a heart shape and his mother asked if he knew what that one was. He told her it was a “love.” His mother asked Andy what made him think that. He said, “It’s what you always write on my cards, Mommy.”

Sofia (8) explaining to her little brother, Emilio (6), that they were going to meet their grandmother’s boyfriend for the first time:

“You know who Ian is, don’t you?”

“Yes. Do you think they’re going to get married?”

“Of course not. They’re too old!”

Matt (6) started saying, “I love you to infinity” to all his family members. When they asked him why he said that, Matt answered, “Infinity is a number that keeps on going forever.”

With their divorced grandmother, Nicole (4) and Kiira (2 ½) made “worry dolls” out of pegs, yarn and fabric. When they finished, Nicole said, “I’m worried about ghosts, witches and bad people.” Kiira took a deep breath, looked at the ceiling and said, “I’m worried about ghosts, witches and Grandma getting married.”

Adam (8) had a crush on a classmate throughout the entire school year but she refused to pay any attention to him. No matter what he tried, she ignored him. But towards the end of the school year, Adam came home one day and ecstatically told his mother that Stephanie had finally talked to him. What had she said to him? “We were having our class picture taken and she said, ‘Move over!’”
